Hebrews 4:12-13

Heads Up! The format below is how we’ll approach all of the passages in these bible studies.  Be sure to take Field Notes so you can talk about these these studies with your bible study partner. You’ll see the importance of this clearly when we study what the bible says about church: no one goes with God alone.

It’s so important that you read the verses that headline these pages! It’s the bible that has the truth, not the bible study, no matter how helpful.

Okay, now that you’ve taken out your bible and read Hebrews 4:12-13, let’s break it down and apply it to following Jesus.  Answer these questions in your Field Notes.

  • What do you think it means that the word of God is living and active?
  • How has it been alive and active in your life? How could it become more active?
  • How is God’s word like a sharp sword?
  • All are exposed to the eyes of him to whom we must give account.  We will be judged according to his word. What does that say about the importance of regularly reading the bible?

What’s scarier than a pop quiz? A pop final exam! We know that God is coming back and we’ll each have to give an account, but we don’t know when. On the surface that may seem frightening but there’s good news: it’s an open book test! It’s good news that we have full access to the Good News. God isn’t going to throw any curve balls or expect anything outside of the scriptures. He’s literally given us his word so we can have confidence before him.
